Overview

The goal of NPM is to increase the overall number of individuals, families and communities that engage in preparedness actions at home, work, business, school and place of worship. To help ready yourself and your business for the possibility of a disaster, Brady supports the NPM’s mission and provides products to support the efforts.

Weekly Themes

Week 1 (September 1-9)

Make a Plan for Yourself, Family and Friends

  • Make an emergency plan with your family, friends or household, establishing a plan and practicing it
  • Sign up for alerts and warnings in your area
  • Learn your evacuation zone and have an evacuation plan
  • Check your insurance coverage
  • Plan financially for the possibility of disaster

Week 2 (September 10-16)

Plan to Help Your Neighbor and Community

  • Learn skills you need to help yourself and others until help can arrive
  • Take “Until Help Arrives” training
  • Check on your neighbors
  • Talk with your Power Company about utility safety
  • Hold an event on National Prepare-athon Day, September 15

Week 3 (September 17-23)

Practice and Build Out Your Plans

  • Complete an Emergency Financial First Aid Kit
  • Maintain emergency savings for use in case of an emergency
  • Participate in an emergency drill
  • Know how to access community resources (e.g., shelters, food banks)

Week 4 (September 24-30)

Get Involved! Be a Part of Something Larger

  • Get your business organization prepared for an emergency
  • Join Weather Ready Nation (Provides forecast information in a way that better supports emergency managers, first responders, government officials, businesses and the public make fast, smart decisions to save lives and property and enhance livelihoods)
  • Sign up for workshops to assist businesses in developing a preparedness program by providing tools to create a plan that addresses the impact of many hazards
